EDGE’s ONE System Fighting COVID-19 Incidence
February 2021
In February 2021, the European project SHAPES has published the third edition of its eNewsletter, dedicated to the large set of digital solutions that comprise the SHAPES ecosystem and aim to contribute to reinforce the autonomy, independence and quality of life of older individuals.
EDGE’s ONE System is presented in the SHAPES eNewsletter as an innovative solution to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. ONE was designed as a platform enabling health authorities to remotely monitor the physiological parameters (temperature, blood oxygen levels) and COVID-19 symptoms (such as tiredness, respiratory difficulties and the loss of smell and taste) of individuals that are either in quarantine or prophylactic isolation at home. Remotely accessing this health and wellbeing information, the healthcare team responsible to follow-up these patients are able to safely monitor the evolution of their condition and, upon the worsening of patient symptoms, to easily reach the patients and, if needed, to determine their hospitalisation, taking into consideration hospitals’ availability. Particularly relevant is ONE’s capability to empower the near real-time follow-up and remote monitoring of COVID-19 patients as well as of those individuals suspected to be infected with COVID-19 in an effective, scalable and safe way, duly upholding the social distancing measures and the obligation to protect frontline health professionals at the point of care.
EDGE’s ONE System is part of the SHAPES large-scale pilot campaign across Europe, aiming to contribute to improve the quality of life of thousands of older individuals, helping them to maintain and extend their independence and autonomy and to develop the skills to self-manage their health and wellbeing condition, in the context of managing the COVID-19 disease.
